Bio - About Doc Reina Reyes - Filipina scientist, educator, and public speaker - Download CV

Dr. Reinabelle Reyes, nicknamed “Doc Reina”, is a trailblazing Filipina scientist and educator and an inspirational speaker, mentor, and role model for aspiring STEM professionals. She currently serves as the Director of the Space Science Missions Bureau of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA). She is also the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Pinoy Scientists, a platform that gives voice to brilliant scientists from the Philippines. For her contributions to the field of Astrophysics, she received the Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the National Academy of Science and Technology in 2023. She is passionate about building a more nurturing, empowering, and inclusive ecosystem for scientists, researchers, and innovators for the benefit of all Filipinos. 

As a public speaker, she has traveled across the country to give engaging and inspiring talks to students, professionals, and the general public— including a trilogy of popular TEDx talks on the importance of science for society. She is the resident scientist and host of Science Says on Knowledge Channel and also served as co-host of Radyo Turo Guro for Science on DZRJ. Her scientific work and initiatives have been featured internationally in National Geographic, NBC News, PBS, DW, Asian Scientist, and Liberty Science Center, among others— and in the Philippines, including recent features in Allure, Bilyonaryo News Channel, and Jolllibee’s Bida Best, Bida Pinoy campaign.

She obtained her high school diploma from Philippine Science High School-Main Campus (Batch ’01, valedictorian), Bachelor of Science in Physics from Ateneo de Manila University (summa cum laude), Diploma in High Energy Physics from Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Italy, and Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Princeton University, USA. She also held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics at The University of Chicago.
